La robe-ruche (The Hive-Dress)
May 23 to June 28 2008

La robe-ruche (The Hive-Dress) is a collaborative installation by Héloïse Audy and Julie Faubert that incorporates into its penetrable structure 1000 pensées-plumes collected from Montréal garment-district seamstresses over a one-year period. Audy and Faubert's hive-dress creates a physical narrative composed of discarded textile industry material and the written fragments of the seamstresses themselves. This material accord, the hive-dress itself, speaks to the everyday lives of immigrant women's experiences and reflects the fraught lines of communication between diverse histories, practices, and representational strategies.
